What is a Graphic Novel?

A graphic novel is a story, told with artwork and text, often in the form of a comic-book. A trade paperback, or TPB as they are commonly referred to, is usually a collection of a complete story-arc or several issues of a specific comic book, also known as serialized comics.

Graphic novels are becoming a more widely used and respected medium. There are different genres within graphic novels including but not limited to superhero comics, crime fiction, science fiction, fantasy, romance, historical fiction, non-fiction and biographies. The spread of graphic novels is evident in the fact that many of today's popular movies, such as Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, and Batman, are being adapted from their graphic novel sources.
